The Northwest Cultural Council recently welcomed six new members to its executive board: Megan Bueschel, director of marketing for Mario Tricoci Hair Salons and Day Spas; Steve Cohen, a licensed real estate broker for Coldwell Banker; Karen Darch, mayor of Barrington since 2005; Peter Froehlich, branch manager of Countrywide Home Loans in Schaumburg; David Nelson, senior vice president of UBS Financial Services, former mayor of Barrington; and Matt Trembley, certified financial planner and consultant for State Farm Insurance Agency.

• Suzy Yehl Marta, founder and president of Rolling Meadows-based Rainbows, was honored by the State's Attorney of Cook County, Richard Devine, and the Cook Country Victim Witness Assistance program with a 2008 Victim Service Recognition Award.
Marta, who received the award during the 23rd annual National Crime Victim's Right Week, was honored for helping to meet the needs of children crime victims by giving them a voice in the criminal justice program.
Rainbows works with the Victim Assistance program to extend its services by offering emotional support groups to children who have experienced the loss of their parent(s) to a homicide.
• Walter M. Sheldon of Arlington Heights, an Allstate agent in Glenview, received the Agency Hands in the Community Award for his commitment to volunteering.
Sheldon volunteers with the Leukemia Research Foundation, which will also receive a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation.
• The following Barrington High School's 238 Studios (video production) and TV students received National Student Television Emmys for their work: Brad Kopp and Mark Minner received a Crystal Pillar Award for "Barrington High School Sports Year in Review"; George Streicher received a Crystal Pillar Award for writing "Barrington High School-TV Behind the Scenes" and honorable mentions for his PSA "Bryan's Way," and movie trailer for "Rock 'Em Dead."
Additionally, Jordan Beck's animation project is being featured on the American Film Institute's Web site, screennation.afi.com/ Watch.aspx?video=831
