Fox Lake parolee charged with criminal sex abuse

A convicted sex offender from Fox Lake was arrested Saturday while on parole, and charged with fondling an 18-year-old woman.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Patricia Fix said Shawn Riley, 32, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of criminal sexual abuse.

Fix said Riley, of 34 McKinley Ave., was visiting a friend whose 18-year-old daughter from Dixon was also visiting.

Fix said Riley entered the bedroom where the woman was sleeping, reached under the covers and fondled the woman.

She waited for her mother to come home before calling police, who arrested Riley the same day, Fix said.

On March 3, 2005, Riley was placed on 30 months probation after he pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

That probation was revoked Sept. 20, 2005, Riley was re-sentenced to six years in prison and was paroled July 3.

He appeared in bond court Sunday and was ordered held on $35,000 bond.

Fix said it is also likely state prison officials will place a parole violation hold on Riley, preventing his release prior to a resolution of the case.

Riley is scheduled to appear in court May 28.
