Student Art Show: The annual Vernon Hills High School Student Art Show will be held May 20 in the school foyer. The public is invited to attend the opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. An awards ceremony will be held that evening at 7 p.m. The show will also be open from 8 to 11 a.m. May 21.
The exhibition will feature student works in a variety of media, including acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings; drawings; sculptures; thrown and hand-built pottery; several types of prints; and photography, including color digital, 35mm black and white, and computer generated images.

Choral Cabaret: The Vernon Hills High School Choirs, under the direction of Jeremy Little, will perform their annual Choral Cabaret at 7:30 p.m. May 20 in the VHHS Auditorium. All songs in the concert will be Disney-themed, from movies and Broadway musicals, to the contemporary jazz stylings of Epcot's A Cappella Americana singers. In addition to the three curricular choirs, the a cappella groups, VoiceMale and Chord on Blues, will perform. The audience will also be treated to individual and small group acts from Disney movies. Light refreshments will be served at this event as well.

Art show and auction: Those attending this year's annual Libertyville High School Student Art Show will be able to take home a piece of their own to enjoy. The show will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 22, and 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 23 in the LHS Gymnasium.
A silent auction at this year's show will feature photographs, prints and jewelry created by LHS students and art faculty, as well as several pieces from professional potter Po-Wen Liu. Proceeds from the auction will help fund the Libertyville Wildcats Fine Arts Foundation's support for an art gallery at LHS. The auction will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 22. Visa and Mastercard will be accepted.

IHSA State Championship: The Vernon Hills High School Music Department has been awarded its second consecutive IHSA Class A State Championship. This championship is determined by scores from two competitions: the Solo and Ensemble Contest in March and the Band, Choir and Orchestra Contest in April. VHHS received 966 points, placing them 111 points ahead of the second place school in Division A. This score is a new record for VHHS and the second highest point total in all divisions this year.
The VHHS music department is under the direction of department supervisor and orchestra director Frank Lestina. Music teachers include Fran Fatta, orchestra; Jeremy Little, choir; and Randy Sundell, band.
