Police: Schaumburg man stabbed stranger in the face
Bartlett police announced Friday the arrest of a 21-year-old Schaumburg man who they say stabbed a stranger in the face after randomly breaking into his apartment.
Arturo Amezquita, of 1149 Dickens Way, was in court Friday after spending most of the week hospitalized for a mental evaluation after the Sunday attack, Sgt. Michael McGuigan said.
Amezquita was arrested Sunday and charged Thursday with felony home invasion and aggravated battery.
Assistant State's Attorney Scott Biesteka said that at 10 p.m. Sunday, Amezquita confronted a man outside of his apartment on the 500 block of Deere Park Circle and attempted to stab him in the back.
The altercation moved into the man's second-floor apartment, where police said Amezquita then stabbed another man in the eye and finger. Amezquita also punched the first man in the face, officials said.
Amezquita and the stabbing victim, who McGuigan said is in his late 20s, were taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Doctors released the victim the next day, while Amezquita was kept at the hospital for a mental health evaluation, McGuigan said.
"When the paramedics arrived to help with the victim, (Amezquita) needed help. He wasn't making much sense at the time," McGuigan said.
Authorities believe the attack was random.
A judge set Amezquita's bond to $150,000 and gave him a June 6 court date in Rolling Meadows, McGuigan added.
