Briefs: Blood drive in Wayne
The Little Home Church by the Wayside in Wayne has scheduled a blood drive from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at 32W128 Army Trail Road. The drive is in conjunction with Heartland Blood Centers based in Aurora. To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with written parental permission; weigh at least 110 pounds; have no symptoms of cold, flu or allergies; and generally be in good health. Violence counseling offered
The Community Crisis Center in Elgin now provides domestic violence counseling services for northwestern Kane County. Counseling is provided by a licensed professional counselor and is available to adult and adolescent females. All of the domestic violence services are at no cost to victims. Experts say one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. Aurora sports items sought:
The Aurora Historical Society is seeking old film, video, photographs, news clippings or other material of athletic contests between East and West Aurora high schools. The material would be used in a one-hour documentary DVD with any revenue from sales going to the schools and the society. Bring materials to the Aurora Historical Society, 20 E. Downer Place. Painted violins on display:
The painted violins from the Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance will be on display through Friday at the Naperville Art League, 508 N. Center St., Naperville. Retreat volunteers needed
The Association for Individual Development is looking for volunteers to help run its annual retreat from May 30 through June 1. Located at Wild Rose Program Center in St. Charles, it is for individuals with disabilities age 18 and older. Ideally, 15 volunteers are needed to assist with the 33 adults that the facility can accommodate. Scheduled activities for the weekend will include cooking out, sports, crafts, games, nature studies and campfires. For those interested in attending, cost for residents of Kane, Kendall or DeKalb counties and Hanover Township is $150. For nonresidents, it is $185.
