Wrap: Bartlett holds off Elgin; BC clinches tie in BN-E
Callie Dennison had a double and was the winning pitcher, moving her record to 7-1, as Bartlett's softball team held off Elgin 3-1 in an Upstate Eight Conference game Thursday.
Dennison moved to 7-1 on the season as the Hawks (20-5, 16-0) inched closer to their first UEC championship.
Kelly Patchett suffered the loss for Elgin (3-15, 3-9). Jenna Jaynes, Vanessa Mejia and Patchett each had hits for the Maroons.
Burlington Central 11, Hampshire 0: The Rockets (23-1, 9-0) exploded at the plate as they clinched at least a tie for their fourth straight Big Northern East title, which they can clinch outright with a win at home Wednesday against Marengo. Kayla Oranger led the Rockets Thursday, going 2-for-2 with 3 stolen bases and 3 runs scored. Lindsay Lange (3-for-3), Erica Maisto (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) and Ashley Scheffler (2-for-4, 3B, 2 RBI) all contributed at the plate for the Rockets. Maisto (12-0) got the win, striking out six and walking none.
Grayslake Central 5, Dundee-Crown 3: Emilie Kerkman pitched 7 innings recording 4 strikeouts with 3 walks in this Fox Valley crossover matchup but the Chargers (3-13) fell just short of a win over Grayslake Central. The Chargers had 5 hits.
Aurora Christian 16, Westminster 4: The Warriors fell in the Private School League to Aurora Christian in 5 innings. Hannah Graves went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Anna Mitchell recorded a hit and 2 RBI for Westmintster.
St. Charles East 5, South Elgin 1: Allowing 3 earned runs on 9 hits while striking out three, Cary Thereon endured this Upstate Eight Conference loss in the circle for South Elgin (13-8, 7-8). Lauren Vitiello led plate efforts going 2-for-3 with the lone RBI for the Storm.
Prairie Ridge 8, Fremd 3: For the first time in program history, Prairie Ridge (15-9) came away with a nonconference victory over Fremd behind solid pitching from Johanna Turner (7 IP, 6 hits, 3 runs, 7 strikeouts) and timely hitting. At the dish, Kari Rankin went 4-for-4 with a double, Erika Trojan added a 3-for-3 showing with a triple, and Lauren Seegers was 2-for-3 with a grand slam.
"Johanna did an excellent job pitching, and we got some great hitting from Kari, Erika and Lauren," said Wolves coach Mike Buck. "This was a big win for us."
