Stroger's disdain no news to union
It is interesting that your annoyance with Cook County government led you to write your "No-show Stroger's disdain for suburbs" opinion on April 30.
It was good to see.
Some of us have been annoyed with Cook County government and its seeming policy of disdain for everyone and everything living outside the political ivory tower of it's-our-way-or-the-highway for some time.
We have learned that you can't negotiate with Stroger's crew of political hacks, puppy dog attorneys and a board of unconcerned bureaucrats.
Our union, representing over 3,000 Cook County correctional officers and other employee groups, has been putting up with their bullying behavior for years now.
The county grandstands, cancels meetings, pontificates and delays progress in order to take care of its own.
We have learned you can't engage county officials in dialogue because they either speak out of both sides of their mouths or will not listen.
Compromise and meeting you halfway is not part of their plan.
They pretend they are progressive politicians, but it doesn't take long to see them for what they really are -- egomaniacs only concerned with taking more and more and giving less and less, clobbering everyone who disagrees with their mantra "might makes right."
I'm glad to see the media is catching on. My annoyance level was decreased after reading your article.
