Judge picked to hear Hall case
The Illinois Supreme Court has assigned Kane County Judge F. Keith Brown to hear the DUI and resisting arrest case against Lake County Chief Judge David Hall.
Hall's attorney, Jason Mercure of Waukegan, said Tuesday that Brown has scheduled a pre-trial meeting of the case for May 14 at the courthouse in Geneva.
Hall, 55, of Waukegan, was arrested April 26 in Vernon Hills after police stopped his car because they say he was driving erratically.
Police say Hall refused to get out of his car despite repeated requests by the arresting officer and was ultimately sprayed with pepper spray because of his refusal.
Hall was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after his arrest because of an irregular heartbeat and was treated for 15 hours before being released.
Both Mercure and attorneys from the state attorney general's office, who were assigned to prosecute the case against Hall, are seeking court orders to preserve evidence they believe exists in the case.
Mercure said in a previous hearing he wants any video or audio tapes police have of Hall's encounter with police. Prosecutors have said they want possession of any blood drawn from Hall at the hospital.
