Fremd clinches berth in MSL Cup
There was no letdown for Fremd after a big Mid-Suburban League West Division girls soccer win over Conant on Friday.
The Vikings (13-2-1, 9-1) came back on Saturday and clinched at least a share of the West title and a berth in Thursday's MSL Cup with a 3-0 crossover victory over Rolling Meadows.
Melissa Castles, Laura Mayer and Susie Plager had the goals for Fremd, which can wrap up the division outright with a tie or win at Hoffman Estates on Monday. Freshmen Nicole Leginski and Elise Kotsakis had assists, and Allison Norenberg was in goal for the shutout.
Hersey 2, Barrington 0: Kristin Gierman got her 11th and 12th assists in the first 10 minutes off a dead ball and a corner kick as Hersey (12-2-4, 6-1-2) clinched at least a share of the MSL East title with the crossover win.
Kathryn Korff and Amanda Slove had the goals and Julia Fredian had 5 saves in her 11th shutout.
"We were just very focused from the beginning," said Hersey coach Brad Abel. "It was nice to get 2 goals and see them hold up because Barrington did put a lot of pressure on us the second half."
Hersey can clinch the title outright and an MSL Cup berth with a tie or win when it hosts Rolling Meadows on Monday or plays Hoffman Estates on Tuesday.
