New dog park in W. Chicago
The West Chicago Park District will be unveiling a new gated dog park this morning in the northwestern edge of Reed-Keppler Park.
Beginning at 10 a.m., dog owners can register for a permit to use the dog park -- named "Wiggly Field" -- and participate in a variety of pet-themed activities.
The park's name was submitted by Camille Bahnfleth, a 5-year-old kindergartner at Wegner Elementary in West Chicago.
Camille's name for the park was among 300 suggestions submitted as part of a park-sponsored naming contest.
"We're all so excited for her," said Mila Bahnfleth, Camille's grandmother.
As part of today's activities, dog owners will be able to watch a pet obedience demonstration or showcase their dogs in a "pooch parade."
The animals will be judged on a variety of categories, including those with the best hair and loudest bark.
To register for the $36 dog park permits, owners must bring paperwork that shows current information of rabies inoculations.
