Emmylou Harris to play at arboretum

The Morton Arboretum hopes that if you have a good time out in its trees, you'll learn to love the green leafy things.

There can't be a better way to do that than to sit on a blanket and listen to legendary singer Emmylou Harris.

Harris is the first artist in the "In Tune With Trees" summer concert series, with a show June 14 at the Lisle museum.

It will be a chance for fans to hear works from her first album in five years, "All I Intended to Be," scheduled to be released June 10.

"The objective is to try to further our mission of getting people to preserve and protect trees. To do that, they have to want to like trees," said Gina Tedesco, the arboretum's public relations manager. "So, we present all kinds of enjoyable events in the trees."

In particular, it wants to leave impressionable youngsters with good memories, she said, such as enjoying a "Ralph's World" show in July, the second concert in the series.

The striking, silver-haired Harris, a 12-time Grammy winner, was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame last month. Her work has spanned country, country/rock, folk and bluegrass genres

She has recorded with The Band, Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Little Feat, Tammy Wynette, Neil Young, Bill Monroe, Lyle Lovett, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt, Garth Brooks, Lucinda Williams and George Jones.

Tickets go on sale May 13 at www.mortonarb.org, by phone at (630) 725-2066, by mail and at the Arboretum Visitor Center, 4100 Route 53. Prices are $42 in advance ($35 for Arboretum members) and $50 on concert day. A $3 processing fee is added to online, telephone and mail orders.

The concert lawn opens at 4:30 p.m., and the opening act is at 6.

In August, Chris Isaak will perform.
