Area tennis teams enjoy near perfect day
The Batavia tennis team defeated Yorkville 5-2 on Thursday.
Both Alex Haizman and Mick Collins won singles matches 6-0, 6-0 for Batavia (11-6, 3-2).
St. Charles North 7, South Elgin 0: First doubles pairing Christian Hoskey and David Johnson blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0. John Mittvick captured first singles 6-2, 6-0. The North Stars are 9-4 overall and 7-1 in the UEC.
St. Charles East 5, Streamwood 2:ŒSam Gunther and Kirk Nelson won first doubles 6-1, 6-0. The Saints improved to 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the UEC.
Marmion 5, Aurora Central Catholic 0: Tom Weiler won first singles 6-1, 6-0 and Luke Brandt took second singles 6-0, 6-0 for the Cadets.

Yorkville 11, Kaneland 3: Alex Norman had 2 hits and two RBI for the Knights (12-7, 9-5).
Alden-Hebron 5, Aurora Central Catholic 4:#338;Going into the bottom of the fifth, the Chargers (10-9) trailed 5-0. They fought back, but couldn't deliver the tying run. Chad Roscoe batted 3-for-3 for the Chargers.
Boys volleyball
St. Charles North d. Waubonsie Valley 25-12, 25-21: Rusty Lavaja finished with 17 kills for the North Stars (13-9, 5-2).
Softball
Rochelle 11, Geneva 4: Dee Phalon tripled and had 2 RBI for the Vikings (10-9, 4-4).
Rosary 5, St. Francis 0: Kylie Schalz struck out 15 batters and allowed 1 hit as the Royals (11-9, 9-0) blanked the Spartans at home. Schalz pitched 21 innings this week and allowed just 3 hits. Lauren Contorno stole 2 bases and scored twice.
Girls soccer
Geneva 2, Rochelle 0:: Elise Farrelly and Natalie Johnson tallied for the Vikings (8-7, 3-1). Vero Castro-Lopez earned the shutout.

Fund-raiser a success:#338;On behalf of the 2008 Batavia Bulldog Booster Dinner/Auction Committee, we would like to thank the many people who helped make our April 11 event a huge success.
There were 430 people dining and dancing at the GasLite Manor in Aurora. Over $45,000 was raised to support the Rotolo Middle School and Batavia High School athletic programs.

ACC's Nagel Commits to SIU: Aurora Central Catholic senior cross country and track star Jamie Nagel has signed her letter of intent to compete at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. She will compete next season for coach Eileen McCallister as SIUE will join the Division IA and the Ohio Valley Conference. Nagel is a four-time state qualifier at Aurora Central Catholic.
