Headline wrongly blamed the CTA

I read with dismay the headline of the Saturday, April 26 edition of the Daily Herald: "CTA crash kills 2".

This is what is wrong with journalism.

At what point was the CTA involved? Did they play a part in the tragedy?

No. It was a truck crash. The driver of a truck plowed into some innocent people waiting for a bus and "el".

If this happened at City Hall, would the headline read "City Hall crash kills 2"? I doubt it.

The headline should have read: "Truck crash kills 2 at CTA bus and el stop", or "Truck operating at unsafe speeds on expressway exit ramp kills 2".

This puts a bad light on the CTA and public transit in general. It's like when some fool walks in front of a Metra train or drives in front of an Amtrak train, the newspapers put out suggestive headlines that lead people to believe that Metra, Amtrak or the CTA were at fault.

It's time to cut out sensationalism and report the facts as they really are.
