Students receive Livingston Award

Ten students at each school in Glenbard High School District 87 were honored this spring for going out of their way to help others.

They might have volunteered. Or perhaps they saw another student in need and stepped in to lend assistance.

What they all demonstrated was a concern for others, and that's a hallmark of the Livingston Human Relations Award given annually to 40 students.

This year's recipients are:

• Glenbard East -- Adrianne Anderson, Scott Bruzek, Alexa Buresh, Rabia Choudry, Kim Eagan, Elisa Lieb, Susan Peinsipp, Kristine Rezny, Deonna Sekikawa and Stephanie Sorensen.

• Glenbard North -- Amber Bell, Bethany Clayton, Joseph Fitzpatrick, Kristina Flores, Brian Hackett, Timothy Hester, Lauren Langhammer, Paul Mihalyov, Kelly Pelz and Dana Petzel.

• Glenbard South -- Amarto Bhattacharyya, Grant Deliberto, Abigail Green, Kelsey Johnson, Kimberly Loconsole, Chase Madigan, Walter Wiedner, Derek Wong, Mike Wurtz and Kalyn Yasutake.

• Glenbard West -- Colleen Alvin, Claire Butkus, Mitch Conti, Claire Fischer, Celina Jacobi, Max Johnson, Mallory Livingston, Elizabeth Mook, Victoria Noland and Elisabeth Yehling.

According to the district, examples of behavior that could merit a Human Relations Award include exhibiting courage in defending the rights of others; befriending others regardless of socio-economic, racial, religious, ethnic or academic background; showing consistent kindness and courtesy to staff members and other students; performing sustained volunteer work within the school or community; and exhibiting a cooperative spirit consistently with students and staff members in classrooms and co-curricular activities.
