Restore funding of Extension program

For 90 years, the state of Illinois has supported the University of Illinois Extension. Extension provides research-based educational programs to the communities of Illinois.

Programming includes Hort Therapy for all ages and abilities, 4-H, nutritional and budgeting information for food stamp eligible individuals, and many more depending on the community that is being served.

This year, Gov. Blagojevich has chosen to withhold funding despite it being appropriated by the Legislature. This was done without notice to Extension and will result in the loss of the jobs of 450 dedicated professionals. Thousands of trained volunteers will be left without leadership and guidance.

I urge the governor to restore funding to these programs that are vital to the citizens of Illinois.
