Lake in the Hills man accused of stealing from dad

A Lake in the Hills man was charged Tuesday with felony financial exploitation of an elderly person, police said.

Raul G. Ruiz-Ocampo, 53, of 211 Wedgewood Circle, stole thousands of dollars from his 82-year-old father, whose estate he oversees, police said.

Ruiz-Ocampo's father resides in an Algonquin senior living facility and in August, a family member contacted police after noticing the father's bills hadn't been paid at the home in several months and that some of his money was missing, Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Ed Urban said.

Officers from the McHenry County Sheriff's Department picked up Ruiz-Ocampo in Lake in the Hills on the Algonquin warrant.

He posted $2,000 bond and is due to appear in court at 9 a.m. May 7 in Woodstock.
