Briefs: Girls followed by vehicle
St. Charles police Wednesday were investigating a suspicious incident involving a vehicle that reportedly followed four girls who were walking to middle school. According to police, the driver of a silver, four-door Chevrolet did not approach the girls or attempt to make contact, but followed them slowly for several minutes. The incident took place about 7:30 a.m. near Horne Street and Kehoe Drive. The male driver was described as in his 20s or 30s and wearing a baseball hat. The vehicle was described as a "newer model" Chevrolet. Police can be reached at (630) 377-4435.
Day of Prayer in Geneva
The National Day of Prayer will be observed from noon to 1 p.m. today at the old Kane County Courthouse at 100 S. Third St., Geneva. The Rev. Theresa Forkins-Phillips will officiate with other leaders of faith communities. Prayer will be offered for government leaders, the military, business, schools, churches, families and the homeless. Youth musician auditions
The Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance will hold auditions for the coming season of Fox Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras and associated ensembles Saturday and Sunday. Hydrant flushing coming
The North Aurora Fire Department will be hydrant flushing within the village starting Monday for areas east of the Fox River and between Randall and Orchard roads, and the week of May 12 for areas west of the river and east of Randall Road and west of Orchard Road. Garden market next week
The Davis Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization in St. Charles will have its annual garden marketplace fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 9 at the school, 1125 S. Batavia poppy sales
Batavia American Legion Post 504 will hold its annual Poppy Days Sale May 9 to 11. Members and volunteers will be at the Batavia Jewel-Osco, 119 S. Randall Road, Batavia Wal-Mart, 801 N. Randall Road, and Apple Villa, 1961 W. Wilson St., to collect donations. The money is used to fund scholarships and programs for students in Batavia.
