Baseball

Youth competition: Roselle Rampage will host a free Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition for area youth from 4 to 6:30 p.m. May 4 at Alexian Field, home of the Schaumburg Flyers. The program is free of charge.

Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12, 13 and 14, and have a chance to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at major league ballparks and the national finals at the 2008 MLB All-Star Game.

The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group at the local competition will be awarded and advance to the sectional.

Football/cheer

Bills registration: Buffalo Grove Bills Youth Football and Cheerleading registration will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. May 3, 10 and 17 at the Bills football building, 151 E. Raupp Blvd, Buffalo Grove (southeast corner of Raupp Boulevard and Lake Cook Road, Emmerich East Park).

SRACLC: The Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County Special Olympics Gymnastics Team competed April 6 in the District A Gymnastics competition in Palatine with the following results.

• Sean C.: 2nd Vault; 3rd Floor-Level A.

• Joseph H.: 1st Vault, Pommel Horse, All-around; 2nd Parallel Bars, Floor; 3rd Rings-Level 2

• Kellie O.: 1st Beam, Bars, Vault; 3rd Floor, All-around-Level 3.

• Dena S.: 1st Beam, Floor-Level A

• Kevin S.: 1st High Bar, All-around; 2nd Parallel Bars, Vault, Pommel Horse, Rings, Floor-Level 4.

• Matt S.: 2nd High Bars, Pommel Horse, Floor; 3rd Parallel Bars, Vault, Rings, All-around-Level 3.

• Kyle T.: 1st Parallel Bars; 3rd High Bars, Vault, Pommel Horse, All-around; 4th Rings, Floor-Level 2.

• Alexis W.: 1st Bars, Vault, All-around; 2nd Floor, 4th Beam-Level 2.

All the athletes had excellent performances. "Our gymnasts not only displayed their hard work, talent and effort, but also their sense of sportsmanship and a great deal of heart. I'm extremely proud of all of our athletes," said Janet Wasserman, SRACLC Head Gymnastics Coach.

Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County, 290 Oakwood Road, Vernon Hills, is a cooperative effort of local municipalities and park districts to provide recreation opportunities to individuals with disabilities.

It serves residents of Grayslake Community Park District, villages of Hawthorn Woods, Lake Zurich, Libertyville and Lincolnshire, Mundelein Park and Recreation District and Vernon Hills Park District.

Hockey

JV season re-cap: The Stevenson Junior Varsity Hockey 2007-08 season came to an end with a record of 35 wins, 11 losses and six ties. The JV team placed second in the Metro North league, won the winter holiday tournament, helped raise $25,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and brought their season to the State Tournament-Elite Eight. Season ending awards presented by coaches Meo, Johannes and Schuette were Leadership to Kollin Fairbanks, Most Improved to Myles Lobus, Most Valuable to Nick Fasano and Tough as Steele to Justin Krupp.

Tennis

Summer leagues: Celeste Pregracke of the Court Aces will run summer tennis leagues again this year. The singles leagues have a flexible schedule and can be played anytime during the week. The doubles play at a set time Wednesdays or Thursdays at HeatherRidge depending on the level of play. Partners will be provided, or participants may bring their own. Play will start the middle of May and end the first week of August. A party and round robin end the season. The entry deadline is May 1. For information, call Celeste at (847) 662-5038.
