Briefs: Pet Dog Show returns
Rover Rescue, an Aurora-based animal-rescue group, will have its fifth annual Pet Dog Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Aurora Turners Club, 1335 Mitchell Road. Children and adults can enter their canine friends in contests to find the quickest eater and friendliest dog, among other titles. There also will be raffle prizes as well as puppies and dogs available for adoption. Entry fees range from $1 to $5 with proceeds going to the nonprofit organization. Special band invitation
The West Aurora High School band has been selected to play at the University of Illinois Superstate Concert Band Festival Saturday. The West High band, led by director Steve Orland, is one of only 10 bands invited to perform from a Class 3A school. The performance will be held at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on the school's Urbana-Champaign campus.
Music Matters party
The Music Matters music school, at 222 E. Wilson Street in Batavia, will hold its second annual parade party to coincide with the Loyalty Day parade at 1 p.m. Sunday. SC business breakfast
The Downtown St. Charles Partnership will have a business development breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m. May 13 at Baker Community Center, at Walnut and Second streets. The session topic is "Business Plans -- A Road Map to Success," as presented by Bil Papp, president of P&F Business Advisors, Inc. Admission is free for partnership members and $20 for visitors. Awards dinner May 15
The Salvation Army in St. Charles will have its annual civic and volunteer awards dinner at 6:30 p.m. May 15 at the Joe K. Anderson Community Center, 1710 S. Seventh Ave. Mayor Don DeWitte will be the guest speaker, highlighting local service programs of 2007 and handing out several awards. Remember war heroes
The Batavia Cares group is producing a BATV program about local residents who have died in war, to be aired on Memorial Day.
