Fox Lake student accused of making threat

Fox Lake police said they tracked down and arrested a student who used a stolen cell phone to call in a bomb threat to Grant High School two months ago.

Fox Lake police Lt. Jeff Norris said Max Barraza, 18, of 193 E. Grand Ave. in Fox Lake, is charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct for phoning in the bomb threat from inside school Feb. 27. Norris said charges might be upgraded.

Norris said Fox Lake officers responded to the scene and determined through the use of bomb-sniffing dogs that the threat was a hoax.

The cell phone number was traced to a phone that had been reported stolen by a student one week prior to the call taking place.

Norris said a tip led police to Barraza, a senior at the high school. Barraza was arrested Friday.

Barraza was taken to Lake County jail and later released on the misdemeanor charge.
