Wrap: Knights beat Batavia again
For the second straight day, the Kaneland baseball team beat Batavia, this time 6-2 on Wednesday.
The Knights out-hit Batavia (11-6, 7-4) 7-3. Joe Gura went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Starter Cody Crook won his first game of the season for the Knights (8-9, 7-4).
Geneva 16, Rochelle 0: The Vikings (14-4, 7-4) scored eight runs in the third inning and then again in the fourth. Justin Doty homered, drove in three, and improved his pitching record to 4-0. Kevin Massoth batted 3-for-3.
West Aurora 12, Naperville North (6 innings):ŒThe Blackhawks (12-5, 5-3) scored at least one run in all six innings as they knocked off the Huskies (12-6, 4-4). DJ Smith went 4-for-5, scored 3 runs, and drove three home. Hitting behind Smith, Cory Walden batted 3-for-3 with 4 RBI.
Marmion 11, St. Edward 8: The Cadets (7-6) raised their SCC record to 5-2. Matt Milroy had 2 hits and Robert Reder scored 3 runs.
Immaculate Conception 6, Aurora Central Catholic 5: Kyle Edwards hit a pair of doubles for the Chargers (9-8, 1-5), but their defense proved their undoing against the Knights.
Boys tennis
St. Charles North 4, Batavia 3: Jordan Broadway and Mick Collins won singles matches for Batavia, but the North Stars (6-1), won three of four doubles matches. David Johnson and John Mittvick won first doubles 7-5, 6-3 and Grant Johnson and Alex Enscat took third doubles 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Softball
St. Charles East 4, Larkin 0: Gabby Moe pitched the distance for the Saints (8-7, 5-3), allowing no runs, 5 hits with 10 strikeouts. Claire Desrosiers batted 2-for-3 with a doubles and a pair of RBI.
St. Charles North 3, Streamwood 1:ŒThe North Stars improved to 12-2 on the year and 6-2 in the UEC. Amanda Engel pitched the final three innings for the save. Taylor Russell had a pair of hits.
Geneva 3-8, Hampshire 2-1: Kelly McCaffrey hit a double and drove in a pair of runners for the Vikings (8-7) in Game 1. On the mound, she pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 earned run.
Melissa Barber knocked 2 doubles in the second game. Brianne Simmons also pitched the distance, fanned nine batters, and walked none.
Rosary 3, St. Edward 2: After six and a half innings, the Royals (8-7, 7-0) and Green Wave were tied at 2-2. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Audra Masters reached second and Lauren McNally stepped to the plate. She ripped a double, scoring Masters for the walk-off win. Schalz picked up the win, striking out 10.
Girls soccer
Aurora Central Catholic 5, Driscoll 1: Allison Britton scored twice for the Chargers and Samantha Cowles, Missy Talkington and Laura Saunders all tallied once.
Women's softball
Sauk Valley 8-4, Waubonsee 7-0: Haley Secor had 5 hits for the Chiefs (13-19) over the two games.
