Cougar should've been captured alive

I read that several officers pumped six rounds into this poor cougar? Can I find out how many times this animal was shot?

In the paper, it said the officers were "chasing it all afternoon." Why was that??

Why weren't the animal control people called in who could have shot it with a tranquilizer gun instead of blowing it to bits?

The paper says four officers opened fire on the cat when they had it cornered in an alley.

Granted a large cat like that would be a fearsome sight, and the police spokesman said it charged the officers and they had to kill it.

Well, yes. If any animal was chased "all afternoon" out of his element, probably scared to death, then gets cornered, I guess it would charge. It's called self defense.

This shooting of a beautiful animal was totally unnecessary. It could have been tranquilized.

I hope the Herald follows up on this to conclusion, find out where he came from, perhaps he got out of a wild animal preserve, or zoo or some idiot dumped it thinking it would be funny to see what happened.

Of course, if building just keeps on going, there won't be any places for any wildlife to go and they will be in all the neighborhoods.

I'm sure Brookfield Zoo or Lincoln Park would have taken that cougar if it was halfway tame.
