Students to join Schaumburg library board
The Schaumburg Township District Library will soon be looking for two high school or college students to join its board of trustees.
Board members unanimously approved the addition of a nonvoting student trustee to serve in an advisory capacity. Trustee Adam Sesso proposed the idea in March, having seen the Harper College board's use of a student representative.
Library trustees felt even more favorable about having two student board members. They will have staggered terms of two years each.
Initially, one of the first student trustees will likely have a one-year term, board President Anita Forte-Scott said.
The student trustees won't formally vote on library governing matters, but they'll be encouraged to provide input.
"They would have the ability to join in conversation, disagree with us and enlighten us on matters we're unfamiliar with," Forte-Scott said.
The student trustees will have to live in the library district, be a high school or college student and be 16 to 20 years old.
Library officials are working on producing the applications, which will be available during June and July. There will then be an interview process aimed at selecting two finalists in time for the fall semester.
