Alexian Village hosts open house

Senior citizens and their adult children are invited to one of two open houses from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, or from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, at Alexian Village of Elk Grove, 975 Martha, Elk Grove Village. Guests will be able to tour the community, talk to people who live and work at Alexian Village, and enjoy refreshments and musical entertainment. Call (847) 437-8070.

King's Players hold auditions

The King's Players, the St. Mark Community Theater Group in partnership with District 214 Community Education, will be holding auditions for "Children of Eden" from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 S. Wille St., Mount Prospect.

Callbacks will be Tuesday. Auditions are open to current fifth grade through high school students. Participants should be prepared to sing 16-32 bars from any Broadway musical, and bring your own sheet music. Wear gym shoes for the dance routine taught at the audition.

Eat, learn, play at 'Do the Dewey'

The sixth annual Do the Dewey FUNdraiser will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. The price includes food, beer, wine, soft drinks, live music and a variety of interactive programs.

Proceeds benefit the library and the Des Plaines Rotary Foundation. Activities include: learning a lariat trick; performance by actor Lance Brown portraying American humorist Will Rogers; the Pesche display offering herbs for growing at home; raffle, treasure hunt and a silent auction.

Stage One presents 'Seussical'

Stage One Theatre will present "Seussical the Musical" at 7:30 p.m. May 2; 3 and 7:30 p.m. May 3 and 3 p.m. May 4 at 620 Lee St., Des Plaines. "Seussical" is a musical retelling of "Horton Hears a Who." Dr. Seuss characters will be on hand after the show. Tickets are $13 in advance and $16 at the door. Group discounts are available.
