• Anthony Svoboda was named the first recipient of the Bloomingdale Police Department's "Bloomingdale Officer of the Year" Award. Svoboda, who has been with the department for six years, was chosen by supervisors for his hard work and dedication.
• Mairi Doyle, 12, of Villa Park was a member of two teams from Trinity Academy of Irish Dance that recently won gold medals in their age category at the 2008 World Championships of Irish Dance in Belfast, Northern Ireland. One eight-member team took the top prize in Ceili dance, and a 16-member team won the gold in the figure choreography category.
• Nanette Traetow recently was hired as director of marketing and communications for the Oak Brook-based DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau. Before accepting her new position, Traetow spent more than 20 years in corporate sales, marketing and management at small- to mid-sized businesses and not-for-profit organizations around the United States.
