Elgin Jaycees to host Walk & Roll fundraiser
The Elgin Jaycees are hosting a fundraising event to benefit the American Cancer Society's Walk & Roll.
The public is invited to a party featuring two hours of open skating from 3 to 5 p.m. April 27 at MainStreet USA Roller Rink, 23 W. Streamwood Blvd., Streamwood. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for children ages 12 and younger.
The Jaycee team is participating in Walk & Roll to honor family and friends who have been affected by this disease, said team captain Wendy Covich.
"Our skate party event is dedicated to the memory of Kim Jackson of South Elgin. Kim was a warm and vibrant friend who fought fiercely and was taken from us much too early," Covich said.
Walk & Roll Elgin is a 5-mile walk, 10-mile inline skate or 15-mile bike ride to raise funds for the American Cancer Society's efforts to eliminate cancer as a major health problem through research, education, service and advocacy. This year's Walk & Roll goal is to raise more than $55,000.
The Elgin Jaycees are involved in many activities that serve the Elgin community. Some projects include Memorial Day flags at Bluff City Cemetery, a water station at the Fox Trot and monthly networking events.
The Elgin chapter of the Jaycees is one of 3,000 local chapters throughout the United States. The Jaycees provide individuals between the ages of 18 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community.
