Briefs: Rummage sale at church

The First Congregational Church in Huntley will host its annual Spring Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to noon today. The sale has been going on for more than 30 years and includes clothes, toys, books, sports equipment, crafts, furniture and more. Items will be half price on Friday and $3 a bag on Saturday. ECC team places first

After a first-place win in the Illinois Community College Student Activities Association Regional College Bowl tournament, Elgin Community College's team will compete for the state championship on Friday at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills. The college bowl is an academic trivia bee consisting of various subjects in college-level courses. Team members include Steve Krull of Elgin, Tristan Angulo of Carpentersville, Courtney Hamill of Streamwood, Arezou Kashani of Algonquin and Charles Gorman of St. Charles.

Water workshop on tap

A community water workshop will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday at Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin. Presentations will focus on best practices for water protection and conservation. The free event is open to all. Visit the community water workshop's Web site at www.freewebs.com/cww08.
