Briefs: Hanover Park eatery opens

Go Cool, an Indian restaurant and bar, will open to the public today in Hanover Park following a grand-opening ceremony Friday with Mayor Rod Craig. The restaurant, at 2020 Army Trail Road in Sandpiper Plaza near County Farm Road, is operated by brothers Mayur and Alpesh Patel. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 7 to 10 p.m. daily. Robotics team places

Lincoln Middle School in Mount Prospect won second place in creative performance for a robotics team Friday in Atlanta at the FIRST LEGO League's World Festival. Eighty-one teams from 24 countries competed against Lincoln's team called Cobalt Blue, said Don Angelaccio, Lincoln's principal. The students competed in several categories, including robotic design, presentation and research, teamwork, table performance, innovative design and creative performance. In January, the seventh- and eighth-graders won the state competition, which allowed them to compete in the world competition.

Nature shack opening

Elk Grove Park District will officially open its new Olmstead Nature Shack from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in honor of Earth Day. The shack is on Cypress Lane, just off Kennedy Boulevard, in Elk Grove Village. The benefits of going green and recycling cell phones, plastic bags and electronics will be discussed. There will also be entertainment. Build a birdhouse at 1 p.m., learn about eco-friendly lawn care at 2 p.m. and learn about the shack's bee hive at 3 p.m. No cost. Free kids health fair today

The KidsPlay Health Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest, 3400 W. Euclid Ave. in Arlington Heights. It will feature attractions such as dance and gymnastics demonstrations, sports clinics, yoga for kids, tae kwon do, children entertainer Dave Rudolf and entertainment by the Jesse White Tumblers. Pediatricians and safety experts will discuss sports injury prevention, allergy and asthma management, nutrition, childhood diabetes, bicycle safety, self-defense and more. Free food this weekend

Sam's Clubs will celebrate its 25th anniversary nationwide with an open house all weekend with free food and dessert samples. The event is open to members and nonmembers. The open house will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
