PADS aims for strike at bowling fundraiser
DuPage Public Action to Deliver Shelter is hoping to strike it rich Saturday.
During the sixth annual DuPage Public Action to Deliver Shelter Bowl-A-Rama, about 150 people and families are expected take down pins as part of an effort to raise $35,000 -- nearly $5,000 more than last year's fundraiser.
This year's Bowl-A-Rama will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Fox Bowl, 1101 Butterfield Road in Wheaton.
DuPage PADS provides housing for individuals and families who are homeless. Their goal is to end and prevent homelessness in the county.
Money raised this weekend will go specifically toward strengthening support programs for people who are in crisis, employment readiness, managing finances and getting out of debt.
"It's always an opportunity for us to introduce ourselves to new people at this event," PADS Director of Development Kathleen Johnson said.
The organization has one major fundraiser each season. The Bowl-A-Rama is the spring event.
Each team will consist of one captain and four bowlers. Organizers are hoping to get 30 teams to fill all the lanes in the facility. DuPage PADS will provide three games, pizza, ice cream, T-shirts and prizes for high donations and high scores.
Meanwhile, DuPage PADS is looking for old bowling shirts to auction off on eBay. The organization also is looking for gift certificates from restaurants and businesses for raffle items.
