Briefs: Man hit by car identified

Chicago police have identified the man hit by a car near O'Hare International Airport as a Chicago man. Family members recognized photos released to the media of 35-year-old David Cardona, who remained hospitalized Thursday from his weekend injuries. A car hit Cardona about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at 10060 W. Irving Park Road near Bensenville as he was crossing the street, police said. He is in critical condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Shelter run/walk coming

Shelter Inc. is holding its second annual 5K Run/Walk 4 Kidz 8 a.m. Saturday at the Higgins Road entrance to Busse Woods near Elk Grove Village, Groves 5-16. Parking is free. An exciting day of family-oriented activities is planned. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age division and overall top man and woman, and first three boys and girls will win a prize in the Kids Dash. Extras for families include crafts, face painting and inflatables for children, prizes, sponsor booths and an awards ceremony. Arlington thanks towns

Arlington Park will host Community Appreciation Weekends this coming season for residents and businesses in nine local communities. Each three-day event will be highlighted on Saturday with an Official Community Appreciation Day. A race will be named for the community honored with that day's trophy presentation following the race made by the mayor of that community. Residents and businesses will get free admission when they reserve tickets at www.arlingtonpark.com. The dates are: May 2-4, Arlington Heights; May 16-18, Palatine; May 30-June 1, Rolling Meadows; June 6-8 Barrington; June 20-22, Wheeling and Prospect Heights; July 18-20, Buffalo Grove; July 25-27 Hoffman Estates; Aug. 15-17, Schaumburg; Sept. 12-14, Arlington Heights again.
