Briefs: High schools get upgrades
The Community Unit District 300 school board has approved renovations at two high school football fields. The district will replace the bleachers and press boxes at Dundee-Crown and Jacobs high schools this summer. The concession stand at Jacobs will also be replaced. The work at Dundee-Crown will cost $518,051, while the Jacobs renovations will cost $651,554. R. K. Sports Seating will do the work at both schools. The work is scheduled to be done by the start of the fall 2008 season.
U-46 students net honors
Students from three Elgin Area School District U-46 high schools -- Elgin, Larkin, and Streamwood -- recently competed in a state competition held by the Illinois chapter of the Health Occupations Students of America. A total of 113 of those students placed in the top 10 in different competition areas. Twenty-nine U-46 students brought home first place, 31 second place and 24 third-place awards. A total of 578 students from around Illinois participated in the event held in Decatur. Competitions are held in the areas of health sciences, health professions, emergency preparedness, leadership, teamwork and recognition.
Water workshop set
A community water workshop will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday at Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin. Elgin High Environmental Science will give presentations on best practices for water protection and conservation. The free event is open to all.
