Lombard to recognize businesses at awards luncheon

Lombard is adding another surprise to this year's annual business recognition event -- a new award.

After reviewing a record number of nominations, organizers decided that one business needs to be singled out for special recognition.

"Their story was so unique," said Trustee Dana Moreau, who chairs the village's economic and community development committee.

That business will be spotlighted today during Lombard's 13th annual Business Recognition Awards luncheon.

Today's event, which is hosted by the village and the Lombard Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry, starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Carlisle, 435 E. Butterfield Road, Lombard.

Other businesses and property owners will be honored for property stewardship, technological advancements, property improvements and more.

"It was a nice mix of businesses from the historic district downtown and the Yorktown (Center) area," Moreau said.

Village President William Mueller said it's important to show appreciation to the businesses that support the community by providing products, services, jobs and more.

"I've always felt the mom-and-pop businesses are the backbone of a community," Mueller said. "They're the ones who really support the community."

Mueller said the awards are Lombard's way of saying "thanks" to those businesses.
