Yummy! Kids can wear what they eat

If you prefer fresh produce to fresh new designers, these clothes are for you.

New Jammies is a new line of 100 percent organic cotton children's pajamas that feature tangerines, apples, peas, carrots, blueberries or bananas. Purchases include an accompanying storybook starring that piece of produce. Matching bibs, blankets and hats are sold separately. ($27-$35, at www.newjammies.com or Green Genes, 5111 N. Clark St., Chicago)

DietDetective has dozens of new, cleanly designed T-shirts, tank tops, baby onesies and yoga bags that feature fruits and veggies. ($20 each, www.foodtee.com)

A few of my favorites: a chili pepper with the word "spicy," a slice of cucumber that says "cool" and a piece of broccoli that says "veggin."

A portion of the proceeds are donated to healthy eating charities.

New for babies

• Not into teddy bears and butterflies? Babesta's Kid Ink onesies are some of the most über-hip baby clothes out there. Their pop culture, hip-hop and ink designs are only for babies who literally rock the cradle. ($36-$48, www.babesta.com)

• Johnson's Bedtime Easy-Grip Toddler Sudzing Bars are winning over moms. They're easy-to-grip bars of soap made with Johnson's famous No More Tears formula. (three bars for $3.49 at chain stores)

• It's hard to jazz up markers. But Crayola's latest effort does just that. Crayola Color Surge markers draw bright florescent colors on colored paper. ($8.99 at major retailers)

Special events

• Water park and spa rarely appear in the same sentence, but here it is: The new Paradise Mist Spa opens this weekend next to the KeyLime Cove water park in Gurnee. Like the water park, everything in the spa will be island-themed, including the Fiji Sugar Scrub and the Caribbean Contouring Body Wrap.

Guests who loathe wind chime music can bring in an iPod and listen to whatever they want during treatments.

If you don't want to leave the kids at the water park, Paradise Mist Spa also offers services for children ages 4-12, including "Princess Styling" for little girls and skincare lessons for tweens. Check out www.keylimecove.com or (877) 360-0403.

• Artist and Wheaton North High School teacher Helen Read is displaying and selling her painted wooden bowls and decorated art objects this month at Good Works Gallery, 485 Main St., in Glen Ellyn. Preview her bowls at www.helencread.com/Bowls(new).html.
