Church to present its Easter story presentation on DVD
The red carpet may be missing, but the premiere of the movie version of "Living Waters, The Passionate Story of Christ" will attract a crowd at 7 p.m. Saturday at Community Presbyterian Church, 111 Madison, Lombard.
The event is free and open to the community, with DVDs of the film available for purchase for $20. This movie is an adaptation of the live theatrical production presented in April 2007 for the Easter season. The movie and play include the Easter story, as well as the prior three-year period of Jesus' ministry with his miracles and teachings.
"So many of the stories in the Bible are so familiar that we gloss over their significance," said Eric Morgan of Winfield, theatrical director and writer of the play.
"Seeing them enacted, hearing the dialogue presented with real human emotion -- the story of Jesus becomes a real experience."
The latest version is built on past performances of the church's Open Heart drama group and its annual portrayal of "The Living Last Supper."
The DVD explores the significance of Jesus' ministry and its impact on those he encountered. Morgan wrote the script with more contemporary dialogue so the audience can relate to the characters and 12 apostles. The show includes drama, monologues and songs with live music.
Ken Flisak of Villa Park, the film version's director and editor through his company Carpe Diem Film Production Services, will be part of the panel discussion with Morgan and theologian Dr. Bonnie Pattison, as well as cast members after the screening.
