Police must take split-second action
I would like to comment on "Why didn't police just use a Taser" (March 7).
First of all, police officers put themselves in danger every time they put on a uniform and leave the house.
Police officers have to make split-second decisions that are often second guessed by people that have no idea about what it takes to be a police officer.
I was not there and I would guess that neither was Art Dulan of Palatine.
A knife does not have to be thrown with great accuracy to be a deadly weapon. So if you ever find yourself having to make a split-second decision, stop for a moment and think about what police officers have to do on a daily basis.
If a Taser was used on this knife-wielding assailant and he died in the process from unforeseen circumstances such as health problems or the use of Illegal narcotics, then the heading would have read, "Why did the police have to use a Taser? Why didn't they just take the knife away?"
