• David Berg of Rockford and formerly of Elgin, a criminal investigator for the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
As investigators for the CAC since the center's inception in 1994, Byrne and Berg have investigated hundreds of reports alleging sexual and physical abuse of children in Kane County. They also have testified in dozens of court proceedings on behalf of abuse victims.
They are being recognized as Friends of Child Advocacy's "brightest stars" for 2008 to honor their tireless work, usually behind the scenes, to minimize the trauma of the investigative process for young victims and their families.
