Detective: Woman didn't mention threats
Yolanda Dipert claims her ex-brother-in-law forced her to have sex with two young children while he photographed many of the attacks.
However, a detective testified Tuesday at Dipert's trial that the Cuba Township woman never mentioned being threatened when she confessed to the crimes.
Dipert, 46, is on trial on multiple counts of predatory sexual assault of a child, aggravated criminal sexual assault and child pornography.
Police say she and her ex-brother-in-law, Lee Dipert, molested a 16-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl several times between 2002 and their arrests in July 2006.
Lee Dipert, 52, of Valparaiso, Ind., pleaded guilty to two counts of predatory sexual assault last May and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Yolanda Dipert's attorneys told Circuit Judge Fred Foreman that Lee Dipert threatened their client and the children unless she participated in the acts.
However, Lake County sheriff's Detective Michael Keller testified Yolanda Dipert never said she was threatened by Lee Dipert when she admitted the abuse.
Keller said he showed Yolanda Dipert several pictures seized from Lee Dipert's house that showed her and the children smiling.
Keller testified that Yolanda Dipert said the abuses took place in her Cuba Township house at 28574 W. Chamberlain Ave. and at vacation property Lee Dipert owned in Indiana.
Testimony in the case is expected to continue today.
