Cary's spring cleanup to occur over five days

The village of Cary has scheduled its 2008 spring cleanup with Groot Industries for April 21-25. The spring cleanup is an opportunity for residents to get rid of items for free. The annual program allows Cary residents to have certain items that cannot be disposed of through regular refuse collection be removed free of charge.

This year, instead of designating one Saturday for the spring cleanup collection, the village's spring cleanup will occur on five designated days.

Groot will collect spring cleanup items on your regularly scheduled refuse collection day (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday).

The village asks that residents place their items at the curb by 6 a.m. of your regularly scheduled collection day. Village code prohibits the placement of refuse on the curb more than 24 hours prior to collection, so be sure not to place the items out too early.

Residents are urged to be conscious of their designated refuse collection day, as Groot will not come back to your residence for missed items once they have passed by your residence.

During spring cleanup week, Groot will accept everything except: tires, sod, dirt, computer equipment, root balls, household hazardous waste, automobiles, batteries, landscape timbers, rocks, concrete, computer monitor, gas tanks or propane tanks.

"The village of Cary is excited to offer this free service to residents," said Steve Lamal, Mayor. "The spring cleanup program has always been a popular event. With the change from one spring cleanup day to a spring cleanup week, I am hoping more residents will have the opportunity to take advantage of this service and kick start their spring cleaning."
