• Alison Thalhammer of Park Ridge, who graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in theater from Valparaiso University in Indiana, earned first place for her poetry in the university's 2007 Wordfest Writing Contest.
• Monal Ray and Katrina Wei, both of Des Plaines, and Dorothy Chrzaszcz, Mount Prospect, were honored during the 2007 Doctor of Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony for students entering their first professional year in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The students completed a minimum of two years of pre-pharmacy studies before being accepted into the four-year professional pharmacy program.
• Michael Nolan, son of John and Karen Nolan of Mount Prospect, has been invited to join DePaul University's Chapter of the Tau Sigma Honor Society for the Spring of 2008. Tau Sigma recognizes and promotes the academic excellence and involvement of the transfer student. Michael transferred from Harper Community College in 2007, is enrolled in the Loop Campus College of Commerce and is an Academic Honors student.
• Caitlyn Hoffman of Buffalo Grove, a graduate of Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2007 semester at Washington University's John M. Olin School of Business in St. Louis, Mo. To qualify, she earned a semester grade point average of 3.6 or higher.
• Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, announced the following students graduated with bachelor's degrees after the 2007 spring semester.
Buffalo Grove: Sheryl Loren, journalism, creative advertising, School of Journalism and Mass Communication; Sheryl Loren, graphic design, College of Arts and Sciences; and Scott Schulman, business administration, marketing, College of Business and Public Administration.
Wheeling: Alexander Grill, pharmaceutical science, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
• Raoul Zaltsberg, son of Natalie Zaltsberg of Wheeling, was awarded a Juris Doctor degree by New York Law School at its May 20, 2007 commencement ceremonies.
• Anthony Strissel of Buffalo Grove enrolled as a freshman at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, in September. Strissel was awarded the Academic & Community Enrichment (ACE) in the amount of $7,500 from Cornell based on his demonstrated record of academic achievement and co-curricular involvement, potential for future success and of personal character.
• Kenneth Hannemann of Buffalo Grove enrolled as a freshman at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, in September. Hannemann was awarded the Academic & Community Enrichment (ACE) in the amount of $7,500 from Cornell based on his demonstrated record of academic achievement and co-curricular involvement, potential for future success and of personal character.

• Sarah Friedman, daughter of Myron and Bryna Friedman, Buffalo Grove, was named to the 2006-07 dean's list at Lawrence University, Appleton, Wis., for maintaining a minimum 3.4 grade point average. Friedman is a 2006 graduate of Adlai E. Stevenson High School.
• Rachel Jenna Katz of Buffalo Grove graduated with a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Iowa at its spring 2007 commencement ceremonies in Iowa City.
