Briefs: Pizza deliveryman robbed
Three men robbed a Papa John's Pizza deliveryman at around 12:25 a.m. on Monday outside an apartment building on the 2100 block of South Goebbert Road, according to Arlington Heights police. The victim, 20, was delivering pizza but could not find the correct building. As he was leaving, a man called to him, and the victim carried the pizza to the man, who pointed a knife and demanded money. The victim started to walk back to his car when two men blocked his way, reports said. The victim then dropped the pizza, threw between $150 and $200 on the ground, ran to his car and drove away. He was not injured.
Winning logo chosen
Fine artist, graphic designer and instructor Denise Laurin of Bartlett has been selected by Arts in Bartlett as winner of the Bartlett Festival of the Arts logo contest. More than 30 entries were received from artists ranging from high school students to professionals like Laurin. Arts in Bartlett officials said they held the contest to find a logo that conveys the event as a comprehensive arts festival that incorporates a juried display and sale, dance, music, drama, literature, children's activities with art and storytelling, new workshops on culinary arts and floral design and arts and craft demonstrations of skills like quilting. This year's festival takes place June 28-29 at Bartlett Park.
Lawmakers to visit school
Congressmen Peter Roskam of Wheaton and Mark Kirk of Highland Park, both Republicans running for re-election, will appear at noon today at Elk Grove High School to announce legislation they say will close a Food and Drug Administration loophole on imported food. They say private labs that do tests on the food aren't required to submit all data to the FDA, making it possible for importers to shop around for a favorable test result on food that may be contaminated. Public health officials estimate food-related illnesses make 76 million people sick each year and kill 5,000 in the United States.
