Antioch 2, Vernon Hills 2

Through four games, Antioch's Kelly Pish has scored three times.

Getting her third goal on Monday afternoon was a bit different from the others.

The junior converted a game-tying header late in the match and it helped visiting Antioch pull out a 2-2 tie against Vernon Hills in a North Suburban Prairie Division game.

"I was just able to jump for it," said Pish, who stands 5-feet tall. "It just came right to me. The ball went over the top of everyone, hit my head and bounced over the goalie. It was definitely a lucky one.

Antioch (2-1-1, 1-0-1 NSC Prairie) came back from a 2-0 halftime deficit on a penalty kick from DePaul-bound Suzie O'Connor in the 60th minute.

Pish evened the contest in the 74th minute.

"We needed to get back in the ballgame and we showed we could do it," said Antioch coach Charlie Trout said. "It's good for us to get back in it after spotting them a lead.

"We had good opportunities to win it, but we'll take the tie. We've done this twice now. We spotted Grant a goal and came back for a 'W' in that one."

Vernon Hills' Lexi Hernandez scored her first 2 goals of the season.

Hernandez took a pass from Kelly Nagle and fired a 25-yard shot off the post in the 20th minute.

Then, Hernandez scored the other in the 36th minute, beating Antioch keeper Katie Budd for the ball and scoring into an open net.

"I had to keep the ball on my legs when I was running (for the ball)," Hernandez said. "I just didn't want to have fear of the goalie running into me."

The Cougars (0-3-3, 0-0-2) are still seeking their first win and have been losing leads over the past week.

"We'll take the tie," said Vernon Hills coach Vince DeLuca. "We're young and still learning how to play right now. We start out strong (in games), we just don't know how to finish games."
