Kids to raise money for animal center

CGPACtion, a youth service organization created in 2006 as an opportunity for Cary-Grove Performing Art Centre students to use their talents to help others, will host Dance for a Cause, a one-day dance camp for kids ages 3 to 12.

During the last two years, the group has donated time, money and resources to many organizations, including: Locks of Love (donated 50 ponytails for wigs and $500); National Dance Institute of New Mexico (donated 200 pairs of dance shoes for needy children and $500); Journey to the Cure (goods and fundraising for this breast cancer support program); the Cary Food Pantry (multiple food drives); and Salvation Army (bell ringing).

The beneficiary for Dance for a Cause is On Angels' Wings Animal Center. This is a new organization whose mission is to rescue abandoned, domesticated animals and provide safe haven while they are rehabilitated and retrained to live full and productive lives. The group's Web site is www.onangelswingsinc.org.

The event is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. April 20 at Cary-Grove Performing Art Centre, 21 Jandus Road, Cary.

The cost of the workshop is $10; $5 will go to On Angels' Wings and $5 will go to CGPACtion to help fund future projects.

Participants who register before Thursday can purchase an event T-shirt for $12.

In addition, participants are encouraged to bring animal care items such as unopened/unexpired dog and cat food, cat litter, leashes, collars, water and food bowls, animal beds, dog or cat toys, grooming supplies or gift cards to pet stores.
