Garden clubs
• The Garden Club of Mount Prospect hosts Brian Winters of River Trails Nature Center for a lecture "All About Bees." Social hour is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., business is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and the lecture is from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Park Conservatory, 395 Algonquin Road, Des Plaines. Gardening lectures
• The Growing Place sponsors a series of workshops for a Spring Festival on Saturday and April 13 at 2000 Montgomery Road, Aurora. Some sessions are free and others have a cost. Chicago Botanic Garden
• The Illinois Orchid Society Spring Show & Sale is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
• Gus Speth reads from and signs his book, "Red Sky at Morning" at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Speth then leads a discussion on "The Coming Transformation: America and the Environmental Future" at 7 p.m. Thursday. No charge.
• The Wisconsin Illinois Lily Society offers a session on creating award-winning floral arrangements in preparation for a flower show at 2 p.m. April 13.
