Allstate suspension upheld in Florida

NORTHBROOK -- A Florida appeals court has upheld the state's suspension of Allstate Corp. from selling new policies, Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty said Friday. McCarty in January suspended Allstate after he said the company defied subpoenas seeking materials showing how the insurer sets prices and resolves claims. Allstate has shed residential customers in Florida since 2004 to reduce the risk of hurricane claims while expanding its auto business there. Allstate said it will continue to sell new auto coverage in the state and the ruling isn't final.
