Teen charged in Wayne theft
Bond has been set at $200,000 for a West Chicago teen charged in connection with a March 13 burglary in the village of Wayne.
Shawn L. Coleman, 18, of 3N659 Norris Ave., faces two felony counts of theft by possession of stolen materials. He was arrested just after 3 p.m. Wednesday near South Elgin High School, where he is a senior, authorities said.
Wayne Police Chief Daniel Callahan said Coleman had been in possession of a 42-inch flat-screen plasma television and several men's watches reported stolen three weeks ago in the Lake Eleanor subdivision, between Powis and Munger roads. Coleman has not been charged with burglary, Callahan said, and the "investigation is ongoing."
Police traced the stolen goods to Coleman while investigating five break-ins over the last couple of months, Callahan said. The crimes "were not all related," he said.
"We had been focusing on a number of suspects and, through canvassing neighborhoods, learned (Coleman) was a suspect in other criminal investigations."
As of late Thursday afternoon, Coleman had been unable to post bond and was being held in the DuPage County jail.
