Shade Gardening: Horticulturist Sharon Yiesla from the University of Illinois Extension will explain how to evaluate the amount of shade available and chose plants that will thrive, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 10.

Let's LEGO: Children in kindergarten through sixth grade can join other LEGO enthusiasts to share ideas and build structures at 1:30 p.m. April 13. All parents are welcome. Children in second grade and under must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, see the Youth Services Desk.

Sweet Home Chicago: Historian Leslie Goddard will discuss the history of the candy capital of America at 7 p.m. April 14. Learn about the history of Chicago sweets, from Brach's caramels and Cracker Jack, to Tootsie Rolls and Wrigley's gum. Samples will be served.

Baseball in the Movies: Celebrate the American pastime with a collection of clips from classic baseball films peppered with anecdotes about the stars. Enjoy scenes from "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," "Pride of the Yankees," Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First" routine, and more at 10:15 a.m. April 15.

Thursday Night Book Chat: Discuss "March" by Geraldine Brooks at 7 p.m. April 17. Books are available at the Circulation Desk. No registration necessary.

Music Manuscript: Write music in the YS computer lab from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 17. Bring a floppy disk or flash drive to saving work done. Software compatible with PC and Mac. For second-graders and up.

Bedtime Storytime: Celebrate the Week of the Young Child, April 13 to 19, with a special Bedtime Storytime at 6:30 p.m. April 17. Families can wear pajamas, bring a Teddy bear, and read bedtime stories together. No registration necessary.

Crafty Kids: Find out the monthly surprise craft at 10:30 April 19. It could be wet, hard, messy, or clean. For third-graders and up.

Calculator Baseball: Wear team colors and bring a calculator to learn to play calculator baseball and other games and tricks at 3 p.m. April 19. For third through fifth grade.

Juggling Funny Stories: Chris Fascione will combine acting, storytelling, comedy, and juggling to educate, entertain, and lead children into the world of books at 1:30 p.m. April 20. Tickets may be picked up at the Youth Services Desk for this free event.
