Area women honored
Two Lake County-area women were honored Friday by Gov. Rod Blagojevich for their work. Blagojevich presented five women with PATH (People Are Today's Heroes) awards for their efforts to help people in their communities. Among those recognized were Cindy Houser, the founder of the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association in Lake Forest; and Beth Piccolo, director of the USO at the Great Lakes Naval Station.
Lake stocked with fish
Lakewood Forest Preserve near Wauconda will open for rainbow trout fishing on April 5 following the release of roughly 600 trout in Banana Lake. Fishing in the county's forest preserves is free, but anglers 16 and over must have Illinois fishing licenses. Trout fishermen must have Illinois inland trout stamps, too. For more information about fishing at forest preserves, visit www.lcfpd.org.
Doctor fails drug test:
A judge on Friday increased bail for a Buffalo Grove doctor charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault after prosecutors said he tested positive for marijuana. Judge Timothy J. Chambers raised bail for Dr. Robert Hughes, 49, to $600,000, up from $500,000. If he does post bail, he will have to pass a drug test to be released, authorities said. Hughes, of 715 Ridge Road in Wilmette, is charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault, two counts of manufacturing child pornography, felony possession of cannabis and endangering the life of a child. His next court date is April 11.
