Local dentist written up in magazine

Dr. James S. Kakos, general, cosmetic, implant dentistry, will be featured in the spring/summer 2008 edition of NewBeauty magazine, a publication devoted to providing a comprehensive guide to the latest advances in plastic surgery, facial plastic surgery, dermatology and cosmetic dentistry, available in April. Dr. Kakos has been practicing in Arlington Heights for 18 years and is on staff at Northwest Community Hospital.

• Attorney John C. Haas of Prospect Heights was re-elected to his 11th consecutive term as director and secretary of the board of directors of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association, which helps the public better understand the complexities of buying or selling real estate. Haas, a sole practitioner in Mount Prospect, concentrates his practice in real estate law, estate planning, wills and trusts. Haas is also a past director of the Mount Prospect/Prospect Heights United Way and the River Trails District 26 Education Foundation.

• Maine West High School senior Marguerite Mueller of Des Plaines received third place in the Union League Club of Chicago's annual Democracy in Action award competition. Mueller, 17, was nominated for her dedication to democratic principles, leadership and participation in civic programs that demonstrate exemplary citizenship values. At Maine West, Mueller is senior class president, editor of the school newspaper and the varsity soccer team captain. She also serves as a peer mediator, National Honor Society board member, physical education senior leader and a four-year class officer.
