Huntley bank teller arrested for theft

A Huntley bank teller lost $15,000 he'd stolen from his cash drawer while gambling at Elgin's riverboat casino in a botched attempt to cover up gas money he'd stolen before, authorities said Thursday.

Jason D. Kuehn, 23, of 726 Stonebridge Drive in Crystal Lake, was arrested Wednesday on a felony theft charge, Huntley's Deputy Police Chief Todd Fulton said in a statement.

Police said Kuehn worked as a teller at the National City Bank branch off Route 47 and stole $100 from his drawer, which he used to fill up his gas tank, according to Kane County court documents.

In a bid to repay the stolen gas money, Kuehn took more cash -- $15,000 -- and went gambling at the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin, where he lost it all, the documents show.

Police began investigating last Saturday after the bank manager called and reported the theft, Fulton said.

Kuehn was booked into the Kane County jail on $15,000 bail. He has an initial court date set for April 4. It was unclear Thursday if he had hired an attorney.
