Same man behind bank robberies in Kane, McHenry counties, cops say

The hooded man who robbed an Elburn bank Tuesday is the same person who pulled a similar heist a day earlier in Union and another holdup March 10 in Huntley, federal and local authorities said today.

The announcement came as authorities released two new images of the robber, taken from a security camera during Monday's stickup at MidWest Bank and Trust in Union, and renewed their call for public assistance in capturing the suspect.

"We have several leads we're following up on at this time," McHenry County Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Cisner said. "There are similarities among all the incidents."

The robber is described as a white man is his 20s, standing between 5 feet, 4 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a thin build. In all three instances he wore a hooded sweatshirt and had a small silver semi-automatic handgun with a dark handle.

In at least the last two holdups witnesses said the robber fled the bank and got into the passenger seat of a waiting car. Cisner today described the vehicle as a white sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry. A description of the car's driver was not available, he said.

All three robberies occurred mid afternoon, with the first occurring about 2 p.m. at the Castle Bank in Huntley. On Monday a man matching the first robber's description held up the MidWest Bank and Trust in Union and on Tuesday a robber hit the Fifth Third Bank in Elburn.

If you think you can identify the robber or have information about the holdups, call the FBI at (312) 421-6700, the McHenry County Sheriff at (815) 338-2144 or Crimestoppers at 1-(800) 762-7867.
